Getting Yourself Back Into Tech!
F

Hi 🙂 I am Oluwapelumi. A software engineer with experience in Frontend development, AI/ML majorly focused on computer vision. Writing about applied ML, system design and frontend–AI integration.

I have always wondered what it's like to leave something for a long time and then get back to it.

I left coding for over a year! This might seem like laziness, but I bet it's not.

Are you in a similar position and want to get back into tech and be consistent?

Let's follow through with the steps I've planned out.

KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

Knowing what you want is life's first option. Understanding what you want to do in tech is essential.

Tech has various sections: software development, data analysis, product design, and many more. If you already have a specific interest, this article focuses on re-engaging with what you used to do.

If you're new, I recommend going through this article and conducting more research to discover what interests you.

BE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Sometimes, we don't have a choice about where we stay or find ourselves, but we can control certain aspects.

If your environment makes it difficult to focus or if you're uncomfortable due to distractions (like your bed constantly tempting you). Consider finding a hub nearby. Establish a comfortable time during the day or, if necessary, in your apartment, perhaps late at night, even if it's just for a couple of hours.

This is one essential step I'm planning to engage on

PRACTICE, SET TIME FOR IT AND AVOID PROCRASTINATION

Setting aside specific times and days each week is crucial. Write down your goals for each session.

For instance, if you aim to build an e-commerce app with six pages, plan to complete the signup and login pages on one day and focus on functionality the next.

Avoid setting unrealistic plans, especially if you have other commitments. Setting unrealistic plans is what I often engage myself in back then, but right now, I plan on conquering that.

Procrastination is also common, but try to stay focused on your goal and avoid distractions.

NETWORK AND MAKE FRIENDS AS YOU PROCEED

Making connections is crucial on this journey. Engage with people on a similar path; collaborate and challenge each other. Don't isolate yourself. Share your projects on social media; numerous opportunities await!

Congratulations on making it this far! Now, let's start working on the individual parts and maintain consistency—that's the goal.

Are you into Frontend development? You can make friends from many tech spheres, come together and build that project. Are you into products? Challenge yourselves.

Don't be an underground person.

I hope you found this article great.
